Keynes was Drunk

& other economic and political observations

Jul 7

This video clip of UK Labour Party leader Ed Miliband giving an interview has been making the rounds. In fairness to Mr. Miliband, mindlessly repeating talking points is something almost all politicians do, in any country and of any ideological persuasion. Nancy Pelosi is  especially good at it (you can practically hear the bullet points in front of her sentences). In fact, it’s a rare thing to find a politician who is willing to speak on issues extemporaneously. Paul Ryan, I think is pretty good at not repeating his own talking points, and Anthony Wiener, before he committed political suicide, was pretty fun to watch because he was such a loose cannon. Indeed, a few months ago I think I mentioned that I actually liked Weiner if only for his bad attitude and frequent rants.

Truly, the only thing that sets Mr. Miliband apart from the rest of the fraudsters, hucksters, and half-wits we call the Political Class is that he apparently is stupid enough not to understand how ridiculous he sounds. Not that most politicians aren’t idiots (they, infact, are), but just that most of them have the common sense to at least pretend they aren’t saying exactly the same boring, dumbed-down, half truths over and over again. Jeez Ed, vary your intonation a little bit, maybe use some synonyms. And it wouldn’t kill you to throw in a facial expression or two.

Oh, and lastly, does it creep anyone else out how young, handsome, and impeccably dressed UK Party leaders are these days? I hear Ryan Seacrest is in the running to become Shadow Home Secretary.

What’s become of Jolly Ol’ Lord Pumicestone?
